- Change your laptop power options to “power saver” or “balanced” mode for better performance.
- De-fragment your Laptop regularly.
- Wireless card can be switched off if not using any Internet connection as it consumes lot of power.
- Cut down the unused programs that run in the background such as Winamp, iTunes, Desktop search etc…which directly consume battery power.
- Though useful, Auto-save feature in MS-Office applications such as Word, Excel, Powerpoint etc..will consume more power and so it’s better to turn off that feature.
- Make use of the cooling pad.
- Reduce your LCD screen‘s brightness level as low as you could possibly view without your glasses on.
- It’s better to turn off your volume level If not listening to music.
- Don’t leave your CD’s or DVD’s inside the optical drives as those will consume huge amounts of power to spin even when not required.
- For watching movies, copy the CD/DVD into the local hard disk and remove the disks. You can run the virtual drives using softwares like Daemon Tools, etc…instead of optical drives directly.
- Laptop batteries usually last for around 500 charge/discharge cycles, that too between 18mnths & 3 years of time. So, your battery would last longer if the charge/discharge attempts are minimal. Inorder to achieve that, remove the battery and use the laptop directly by connecting it to the AC power using the charger(Whenever possible). This will reduce the number of charge/discharge cycles and so your battery will last longer.
- Another good tip for saving battery lifetime is – leave your laptop uncharged while using and use it until you see a low-battery warning bubble, then charge the battery completely. This avoids overheating of your battery and even helps in reducing the no: of recharges to a minimum.
